Yogurt is a super versatile food option. Typically seen as a breakfast item, you can easily incorporate different types of ingredients such as granola, honey, or fruit for a special touch. Now that I’ve ranted about the uses of yogurt, let’s move on to the types. There are many yogurt companies that strive to make great tasting yogurts. However, companies also tend to include added sugars to taste, which can lead to various health problems in the long run.

As a result, it is becoming more and more common for brands to create yogurts that are not only tasty but also healthier with less sugar. With that said, of course I had to find the best low-sugar yogurt.

Because yogurt brands tend to come up with some pretty unique flavors, I kept it simple: popular flavors, no wild combinations, and I couldn’t add extra ingredients. Every brand of yogurt I tried advertised that it had less or no added sugar.

For starters, La Yogurt’s packaging says there is 25% less sugar in their yogurt. While this may be true, the nutrition label showed that a full 6-ounce serving still contains 19 grams of total sugar, with 11 grams of added sugar. That seems misleading when it comes to “less sugar.”

Taste-wise, I liked the kind of creaminess this yogurt had. It was a smoother consistency that the other yogurts didn’t have. However, I could feel as if I was tasting the sugar with every bite, and it had that other unusual bitter taste. It wasn’t sour as if the yogurt was expired, but something seemed wrong and I couldn’t get past that while trying this brand.

When I think of Oikos, I think of the John Stamos advertisements from years ago, which is great publicity on the part of the brand. This particular yogurt has 0% fat, zero grams of added sugar, and zero artificial sweeteners, hence the title, “triple zero.” It also contains 15 grams of protein, which is definitely a nice bonus for anyone looking to get their protein intake for the day.

Although protein It’s supposed to be filling up, actually I’ve been feeling pretty hungry afterwards, still looking to eat something else. I think if I could add more ingredients to the yogurt it would have been more satisfying.

The texture also puzzled me. Even after blending, the yogurt felt thin and runnier than some of the other brands. That might have been the reason the slice wasn’t filling, due to the thinner consistency. I also feel like it lacked flavor.

I’m sorry, Mr. Stamos, but for those reasons, Oikos is ranked number 4.

The label for this brand says that there is “40% less sugar than similar yogurts.” The website it even clarifies the statement. Chobani yogurt contains about 9 grams of sugar per 5.3-ounce serving. Meanwhile, they state that similar yogurts with no sugar substitutes average 16 grams of sugar for the same number of ounces. This particular yogurt also contains 12 grams of protein.

Overall I thought the flavor was subtle but it helped to emphasize the yogurt. For this tasting, I chose their “Madagascar Vanilla and Cinnamon” flavor. When you opened the lid, you could actually see cinnamon on top. This was appreciated because she didn’t taste like she was eating less sugar.

That said, Chobani only makes it to #3 because I thought the yogurt was too thick. For some people, that may indicate a hearty yogurt. However, the texture seemed a bit thick to me. I removed the lid to see the yogurt sticking to the edges of the container. The thickness of the yogurt made it chew almost dry in my mouth, which is not pleasant when it comes to eating healthy food.

I went back and forth on whether or not I should make Siggi’s yogurt win first or second place. It has 75% less sugar compared to the brand’s original low-fat yogurts. However, it cannot be said that sugar is lacking. The yogurt itself is creamy, the texture is smooth, and I was actually full and satisfied after eating a serving for breakfast.

Because I had to be picky with this one, the immediate presentation was not pleasant. The initial look of the yogurt itself was a bit messy and a bit watery, and I had to scrape a thin layer off the lid. However, once mixed, the consistency was perfect.

I also considered calories. AN by Siggi the lowest serving of sugar is 100 calories. This isn’t bad at all, but it’s not the lowest of the five. Overall, I would eat this yogurt again, no complaints.

With just 2 grams of sugar, 12 grams of protein, and no added sugars, this yogurt is just 80 calories per serving. It almost seems “two” too good to be true.

Let’s start with the unveiling of the yogurt. He removes the cap in one perfect motion and feasts his eyes on this absolutely stunning liner. It was smooth and flawless, I almost didn’t want to stick my spoon in it because it was so pretty. The look of the yogurt is something you would see in a commercial for the brand.

Then I tried. It was definitely a bit thicker, but nothing that made the texture or consistency seem off-putting. Just like its look, the texture felt smooth and rich. It was creamy and satisfying, and with all the healthy benefits, what more could you ask for?
