The Prostate Cancer Foundation and Olympic Freestyle Skier Winter Vinecki Challenge Americans to “Get Healthy” During Prostate Cancer Awareness Month

Los Angeles California, August 30, 2022 – The Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF) challenges Americans to show their support for men affected by prostate cancer by taking on the simple challenge of staying active and eating healthy during Cancer Awareness Month prostate in September. Winter Vinecki, Olympic freestyle sky skier and celebrity PCF ambassador, joins PCF’s “Get Healthy” campaign, a national effort to raise awareness of prostate cancer and demonstrate that choosing a healthy lifestyle can have a significant impact on potential risk reduction and improved outcomes.

“It is very important for men and their families to understand the link between lifestyle and prostate cancer. I am committed to doing everything I can to support the “Get Healthy” challenge which, in turn, will raise awareness of prostate cancer risk and save lives,” said Vinecki, a freestyle skier and member of Team USA. at the Winter Olympics Beijing 2022.

“We are very honored that Winter will help PCF raise awareness about the correlation between healthy lifestyles and prostate cancer risk,” said PCF President and CEO Charles J. Ryan, MD. “Lifestyle modifications have been convincingly shown to reduce the risk of developing cancer and progressionincluding prostate cancer. Men who adopt these healthier lifestyle changes can help reduce their risk of prostate cancer, especially black men who are at higher risk of developing the disease.”

One in eight men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in his lifetime. For black men, it’s one in six, and they’re twice as likely to die as white men. Lifestyle factors, such as exercise and healthy eating, play an important role in health risks, health equity, and outcomes. While healthy eating and exercise can’t prevent you from developing cancer, research shows that they can lower your risk.
