New Delhi: The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in cardiology has the potential to transform the way heart disease is detected and treated. AI can enable earlier detection, allowing proactive measures to be taken before the condition worsens. Additionally, AI can help personalize treatment plans, adapting them to the specific needs and characteristics of each patient and ultimately improving the effectiveness of treatments and optimizing patient care.

This was stated by the experts during the two days World Cardiology Summit‘Summa2024 Cardiology’, organized by Max Health in collaboration with Mayo Clinica medical institution based in the United States.

Highlighting the immense potential of AI in the medical field, Dr Balbir Singh, Cardiologist at Max Hospital, pointed out that the full scope of its capabilities is yet to be understood and explored. He used the example of angiography, a common diagnostic procedure in cardiology, to illustrate how AI can improve decision-making processes.

Dr. Singh further discussed the practical applications of AI in cardiologyparticularly in imaging techniques, and explains how AI can streamline the analysis process and provide valuable insights. “We used to take images, we used to get the image, we used to analyze it ourselves, putting our brain into it. Additionally, AI can be used to analyze ECGs and predict patient outcomes. The Mayo Clinic conducted a study in which they fed a large number of ECGs and corresponding patient data, including survival and rehospitalization rates, into an artificial intelligence system. AI was able to identify patterns that the human eye cannot easily detect, allowing for more accurate predictions of patient outcomes.
