After studying more than 1,100 people involved in this study, the researchers identified two molecules, 2 PY and 4 PY. Both of these are produced when the body breaks down extra niacin.

Two other groups of researchers, American and European, examined the levels of 2 PY and 4 PY. 3,000 people were included. In which it was found that the risk of heart disease over the next three years was almost twice as high in people with a 2PY or 4PY level.
