Dwayne Johnson says that getting older is about finding balance.

while talking to men’s health for his December cover story, the black adam star, 50, opened up about how working out has been her saving grace, both physically and spiritually, through some of the most difficult years of her life. She even helped him learn the power of vulnerability.

“During those moments when I fell and was challenged by depression, the gym became my best friend, and I know that is the case for many people,” he explained. “You can go to the gym to sweat. toxins and get a little more clarity when you walk out the door. It doesn’t solve the problem, but it helps.”

For the megastar, finding his balance is a practice he’s honed with age, something he hopes other men can learn too.

“As guys, we have a tendency not to ask for help,” he said. “The ego gets in the way and we start putting things deep down in our guts, which is not good. I have become an advocate of asking for help.”

The actor added that he found balance by “making sure to stay in touch with the simple basic things that are important to me.” After all, “life can get crazy and fun for all of us, but especially when you get a little bit of fame, things tend to go awry.”

“I’ve trained long enough to know that there are some good points I could share that could help my audience in their fitness and wellness journey,” he said of routinely posting your workouts on social media. “However, one of the responsibilities is to make sure the stuff I’m posting is smart, training wise, not bullshit that will hurt you.

Johnson’s gym routine is no joke. while filming black adamairing December 22 on HBO Max, her goal was to be in the “best shape” she’s ever been in, which wasn’t easy at this stage in life.

“As guys you hit 30, you like to think you’ve got your s*** together. Usually you have no idea. You’re trying to work out your s***. And you’re trying to fake it until you make it, that kind of thing,” he said. “At 40, I said, ‘Okay, I’m going to spend the next decade training the smartest way possible, balancing training, family and work, being an open sponge, learning all the days but without worrying about the training of the ego. I don’t worry about the weight I’m putting on the bar, pushing myself so hard that hopefully by the time I get to level five my joints feel great and I’m still able to not just maintain but add real muscle and some really dense muscle.’ “

Although his routine may seem extreme, he insists that there is a spiritual method to his madness.

“There is a Polynesian word called manna,” Johnson, who says he is half black and half Samoan, points out. What it really means is like an energy, a force, a power that we all have, and it always exists in our world. when i talk about manna, It’s a feeling I have that’s here deep in my DNA, and you can have it when you walk into the gym. can you feel the manna It can be quite palpable.”

“I have always been connected to my cultures, my family and my ancestors, but as you go down the path of life, you start to connect more with your spirituality in that way where you start to realize what manna it actually means, you know?” he continued. “For me, manna it becomes my daily anchor, and is a reminder of my cultures. It is a reminder of who I am; and it’s a reminder to work hard, be humble, show gratitude; and it’s a reminder to always connect with people, as if we could stay connected through manna Is very powerful”.

Johnson no doubt shares that knowledge with his family as well: daughters Tia, 4, Jasmin, 6, whom he shares with his wife Lauren Hashian, as well as his other daughter, Simone, 21, whom he shares with his ex-wife. and business partner Dany Garcia.

When she’s not at the gym or filming the next big blockbuster, Johnson loves to post sweet moments with her family on social media.

In August, for example, the action star posted an adorable Tiana tribute video.

“Lil’ Tia ‘Cindy Lulu’ here has no idea. Absolutely zero idea how much her love and kindness means to her daddy,” she wrote of her daughter, whose hair was sitting on top of her head in emulation of Cindy Lou Who, Dr. Seuss character How the Grinch stole Christmas.

“One day a few years from now, hanging out in Dad’s office and sitting on my lap is going to be the LAST PLACE she’s going to want to be,” he said. jumanji added the star. “So I’ll be greedy and take it while I can. Thanks for being so nice to your daddy T-Rex. One day you’ll understand.”
