The World Health Organization (ICU) has confirmed the first human case of bird flu in West Bengal. This is the second human case reported in India. The first case of bird flu was detected in 1997. The WHO said on Tuesday that a case of human infection with bird flu caused by the H9N2 virus was detected in a four-year-old child in the eastern state of West Bengal. India, Reuters reported. The patient was admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit (ICU) of a local hospital due to persistent severe respiratory problems, high fever and abdominal cramps in February, and was discharged three months later after diagnosis and treatment, the WHO said.

The patient was reportedly exposed to poultry in and around his home, and there were no known individuals reporting symptoms of respiratory illness among his family and other contacts. This is the second human infection of H9N2 bird flu from India, the first in 2019, the agency said.

While the H9N2 virus generally tends to cause mild illness, the United Nations agency said more sporadic cases could occur in humans, as this virus is one of the most prevalent avian influenza viruses circulating among poultry. in different regions.
