Gender Gap Index Report 2024: Despite all efforts, gender inequality in India shows no signs of reducing. On June 12, the World Economic Forum released Global Gender Gap Index data, which contained a shocking revelation. India fell two points behind and reached 129th place in the list of 146 countries. At the same time, Sudan, which is going through a war, has made its place by removing Afghanistan, a country ruled by the Taliban, from last place.
Let us tell you that the reason Afghanistan was removed from the final ranking is its non-inclusion in the World Economic Forum statistics. Besides Afghanistan, Myanmar, Russia and Malvi were also not included in the World Economic Forum (WEF) index. When it comes to South Asia, Pakistan’s performance was the worst. While Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Bhutan were ahead of India.
Indian women earn more than men
Although there is a lot of talk about women’s empowerment in India, the numbers say something else. India has reached the lowest level among countries in terms of economic gender equality. Economic inequality in India is 39.8 percent.
This means that in India, if men earn Rs 100 for this work, then on average women earn Rs 39.8 less. It was also stated in the report that the gender gap in India, with a population of over 140 million, will be 64.1% in 2024. While the economic equality score of India is improving.
At the same time, economic gender equality in Bangladesh stands at the lowest level of 31.1. Apart from these two countries, economic gender equality of 34.3 percent, Pakistan 36 percent and Morocco 40.6 percent were observed.
The WEF report says that closing financial inequality and the gender opportunity gap is the second major challenge to tackling global gender inequality.
