Healthcare facilities : The Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) has prepared a list, which will soon serve as a guide for all health facilities set up by the government in villages. With its help, people will be able to seek treatment at Ayushman Arogya Mandir (AAM), health centers and district hospitals.

This is the National List of Essential Diagnoses (NEDL), the draft of which has been placed in the public domain. It recommends that at least 9 types of diagnostic tests should be available even in village level health facilities. So that people do not have to travel anywhere to take tests. What medical tests are included in the project?

The ICMR project includes tests for diabetes, malaria, tuberculosis, HIV and syphilis. The draft guidelines recommend that hepatitis B tests should be available in addition to basic tests at Ayushman Arogya Mandirs. Apart from this, clinical tests should be carried out at primary health centers (PHCs) for all common diseases including dengue, Japanese encephalitis and scrub typhus. X-ray and ECG machines should also be available at the PHC.
