Young people are abandoning condoms: The condom is no longer a taboo word for us. Its use reduces the risk of deadly diseases like AIDS caused by unprotected sex. This is the reason why emphasis is placed on its use all over the world. Despite this, young people avoid using condoms. This is what a report from the World Health Organization (WHO) revealed. This report indicates that condom use has declined among young people around the world, which is very worrying.
Why is condom use decreasing among young people?
The reason for the reduction in condom use among young people has been attributed to pornography or platforms like OnlyFans or natural family planning. Sarah Pratt, sexual health instructor at the World Youth Organization (YMCA), says: “Some boys don’t use condoms because they don’t see them used in pornographic videos. » Sarah Pratt says that “lack of sex education is also the reason why young people are less interested in condoms.” He says young people need to understand that they need to use condoms to protect themselves from STIs (sexually transmitted infections).
Where has condom use declined the most?
Some time ago, the WHO conducted a survey in 42 countries in Europe and the Middle East. In this context, 2,42,000 adolescents aged 15 were questioned about condoms. The survey reveals that the number of boys who used a condom during their last physical relationship with someone fell from 70% in 2014 to 61% in 2022.
