Popcorn is actually very low in calories when it’s not covered in sugar, syrup, or butter. The next time you have a craving for chips, try lightly salted popcorn.

An individual 17 g bag of salty popcorn has about 84 calories, compared to 123 calories in an individual 25 g package of salty chips. Popcorn is a light, high-volume food, so a serving is usually lighter for the same size.

One of the easiest ways to cut calories is to choose smaller portions, for example a small tub of popcorn instead of a large one.

“One thing you can do is try half the servings of these particular items that you’ve labeled ‘guilty pleasures,'” registered nutritionist Rhiannon Lambert he previously told Insider. “Of course, there is no reason to feel guilty, but instead of having three scoops of ice cream, have two, instead of having a full dessert, share half with a partner.”
