Hembree suggests that drinking enough water is a great way to help boost metabolism after 50.

“11.5 cups a day for women and 15.5 cups a day for men are the total fluid recommendations. My advice is to make at least half of this 100% water,” she says.

  Not only fruits and leaves, but also the kernels and wood of berries are healthy.

If you want to add extra flavor, try drinking lemon water. This can help improve digestion and promote satiety, which aids in weight loss.

“Of all the macronutrients, protein requires the most energy to break down and digest,” says Goodson. “As dietitians, we often say, ‘protein helps fill you up faster and keep you full longer,’ and that’s due to the fact that it has a slower digestion rate than carbohydrates or fats.”

Therefore, Goodman recommends drinking protein drinks. Examples include those made with cow Milk, greek yogurteither protein powderwhich could help keep your metabolism in high gear as well as curb your appetite.

“Avoiding excessive alcohol consumption has been shown to support a healthy metabolism,” says Hembree.

According to Hembree, excessive alcohol consumption would be more than 2 drinks a day for men and more than 1 drink a day for women.

If consumed in moderation, drinking alcohol is not as bad as it seems. However, excessive consumption of the drink could lead not only to weight gain of empty calories, but they also come with other health problems such as heart problems and high blood pressure.

“One of the most powerful beverages for weight loss is green tea,” says Goodson. “The catechins found in green tea are antioxidants that have been shown to potentially increase fat burning and raise metabolism.”

In addition, Goodson also says that the caffeine found in Green Tea can help improve exercise performance by providing an energy boost.
