What causes a TIA
Like a whole blood stroke, a TIA is typically caused by a blood clot that blocks the vessels that supply oxygen to the brain.
Some risk factors can increase your risk of a TIA, such as smoking, high blood pressure, obesity, high cholesterol levels, and regularly drinking large amounts of alcohol.
Plus, having an irregular heart rhythm can also increase your risk, just like diabetes.
A TIA is treated slightly differently than a stroke, however there is an important reason for this.
