9th Annual “N20” Neuroscience20 (Brain, Spine, and Mental Health) Summit to Shed Light On $16T+ Global Cost of Neuro-psychiatric Disorders

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 10, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Launched nine years ago, Neuroscience20 (N20) educates world leaders and leaders of the Group of Twenty (G20) on the cost of neurological, spinal and mental disorders. Neurological disorders have a significant impact on the world economy due to their often chronic and life-threatening nature, creating a global disease burden. G20 member countries, representing the world’s leading economies, are invited to come together to formulate a plan to overcome this burden. The N20 – an initiative of the Society for Brain Mapping and Therapeutics (SBMT) – is at the forefront of this global collaboration to raise awareness of the brain, spine and mental disorders.

“We studied the cost of spinal and neuropsychiatric disorders to the global economy, and it took us almost a year to collect the data. We found a total cost of more than $16 trillion annually to the world economy and $1.5 trillion to the US economy. We publish these recommendations in the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease,” shares Dr. Vicky Yamamoto, co-author of the article, 20the SBMT Chairman and Cancer Scientist at USC-Keck School of Medicine and USC-Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center.

This year’s N20 science and policy program includes speakers from across Indonesia and other G20 countries, as well as five keynote speakers: Drs. Ali Gufran Mukti, Robert Hariri, vicky yamamoto, Keerthy SunderY Jose Edgardo Valerio Pascua. The summit covers neurotechnological innovation in cell therapy/immunotherapy; nanomedicine/nanoneurosurgery; AI machine learning; diagnostic, prognostic and predictive modeling; neurotrauma; the Moonshot Cancer Initiative; suicide prevention; opioid addiction; epilepsy; radiosurgery; pain management; COVID-19 brain; rehabilitation; neurodegenerative disorders; neurovascular disorders; neuropsychiatric disorders; and spinal disorders.

“We are truly honored to bring a world-class group of science and global policy experts to Indonesia. We urge the Sherpas of Indonesia and India (G20 presidency in 2023) to include the expansion of N20, in addition to addressing the cost of neuropsychiatric disorders to the global economy, in the G20 communiqué as a whole,” he says. Dr. Asra Al-FauziProfessor of Neurosurgery, Head of Center for Neurovascular and Neuroendovascular Therapy, Airlangga University and President of N20 Indonesia.

Brain Initiatives from the US, Europe, Middle East and Balkans (ME+), Latin America (LA), and Asia Pacific (AP) will also be represented. Additionally, the program will include a panel on the Global Medical Donor Summit for Ukraine as part of SBMT’s humanitarian mission.

“Through Neuroscience20, SBMT offers an open platform for international cooperation and partnership among the G20 nations, which comprise the world’s largest economies. We are responding to our discovery of a lack of effective collaboration between nations and a lack of resources in developing countries. Current statistical analyzes of the cost of neurological disorders to the global economy strongly suggest a great need for investment in neurotechnology and innovation or accelerated therapies and diagnostics to curb these costs. During the current COVID-19 pandemic, SBMT, through this summit and our publications, intends to show the importance of global collaboration to reduce the health and economic burden on the population, specifically with regard to neurological disorders. /brain, spinal and mental”, explains Dr Babak KatebChairman of SBMT, Chairman of the World Brain Mapping Foundation (WBMF), Director of the National Center for NanoBioElectronics, and Director of Brain Technology and Innovation (BTIP).
