Social media and children: Nowadays, social media has reached every mobile. Being active on social media is not a bad thing, but it is worrying that in the new era, children are using it excessively. A recent Lancet study indicates that one in three children in the country have become addicted to social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook or X. In such a situation, not only the childhood and education of children are affected, but their minds are also affected.
What does the Lancet study say?
The Lancet study reveals that one in two urban parents complain that their children have become addicted to social media, OTT services and mobile games. This has a negative impact on their behavior and they gradually become aggressive. Due to their addiction to social media, children not only become violent, but they also lack patience.
Social media clearly has a negative impact on children’s lifestyle and their development and childhood are affected. Lancet conducted a survey on this topic at the local level, in which 47 percent of parents from the urban population said that their children spend more than three hours a day on social networks, OTT, reels videos, etc.
Parents demand strict social media laws
Lassant said that in the survey, 66 percent of parents said there should be strict laws in the country regarding social media and mobile games for children under 18. He believes young children’s mobile phones should be placed under parental control under data protection law. The government should make rules about this. Ten percent of parents said in this survey that their children looked at their cell phones for more than six hours.
