According to a study released on Monday by the CII Chamber and the ‘Faculty of Management Studies’ (FMS), Delhi, the option of ‘work from home’ for employees can be helpful in promoting more balanced geographical growth. According to the study, the ability to hire employees from different locations can reduce various types of pressures on major metropolitan areas of India. The study titled Work from Home: Benefits and Costs: An Exploratory Study in the Indian Context indicates that Covid has created many alternative systems.
Working from home is a major consequence of the changing employment ecosystem. Since then, many organizations have adopted remote and hybrid work cultures. The study found that the new model delivered moderate savings on office rental costs. Along with this, businesses have also seen a reduction in costs associated with meeting and working with customers. The results showed that savings in travel and accommodation costs allowed for limited adjustment of employee compensation structures. There has been a reduction in the stress of traveling to the office for employees, which has increased the level of work.
However, the study also found that working from home makes communication less effective and that remote working is detrimental to teamwork. Studies suggest that remote work can hinder a company’s growth. Regarding costs and benefits for employees. Participants believed that remote working was particularly beneficial for parents and guardians of young children. There was also a slight increase in employee productivity. However, the study found that some participants reported difficulty separating their work life from their personal life. Due to which the stress increased.

Regarding the macro environment, the study suggests that remote working reduces a company’s carbon footprint and can help organizations achieve their ESG (environmental, social and governance) goals. This study indicates that working from home benefits both employers and employees, but can cause long-term harm. These losses are linked to the formation and maintenance of social, emotional and human capital.
