SSLC results 2022: Karnataka govt opens mental health helpline for students

Karnataka Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar announced on Wednesday the opening of a mental health helpline for students who are in danger while waiting SSLC Results on May 19. This is the first time that the Karnataka government has taken such a step.

“SSLC students hoping for results should not lose hope at all costs,” the minister said, adding that success and failure are part of life and are two sides of the same coin.

“All the best to the students who are awaiting their SSLC exam results. Whether they get the expected results or not, one should not be discouraged as this is not the end or final deciding factor of his life. It is just a result of one’s academic life. Success and failure are part of life,” he said.

Students who are feeling down, distressed, anxious, depressed or scared are advised to call the helpline on 080 46110007.

Dr. Jini K Gopinath, director of psychology at YourDOST, an online counseling and emotional support platform designed to encourage mental illness, said helplines are largely seen to be more active during Class X results. and XII. “In our system, exams are considered the most important thing. Children generally tend to go to extreme measures when under intense anxiety. There have been incidents where a student dies by suicide and it is later discovered that he or she has passed the exams,” Gopinath said.

“So the helplines will help the child to see the world from a different perspective and it is very important for adolescents to be encouraged and listened to unconditionally. It’s like reducing pressure. Setting up a helpline is a much appreciated step because it will help teens get through this difficult phase,” added Gopinath.
