STRONG ST. JOHN, BC – After being postponed twice, the Wellness in Construction talk with former NHLer Corey Hirsch at Fort St. John has been rescheduled for June.
Initially, the Association of Independent Businesses and ContractorsThe event was supposed to take place in February and again in march.
The lecture tour, dubbed “Just One More Day,” will take place at the Stonebridge Hotel on June 14 from 7 am to 9 am and includes a hot breakfast buffet.
The former professional hockey player recently kicked off conversations about mental health, publicly sharing his story and his struggles around the issue.
In 1994, Hirsch won a silver medal at the Olympics and the Stanley Cup as a player with the New York Rangers, but he also attempted suicide that year.
Hirsch was later traded to the Vancouver Canucks and ended his career in Europe while battling mental health.
At some point, he was unable to play anymore due to panic attacks and weight loss. Ultimately, he was diagnosed with obsessive-compulsive disorder and he received the treatment he needed.
Following his diagnosis, Hirsch returned to the sport he loved in a different capacity, coaching NHL goaltenders and joining Sportsnet Radio to do commentary for the Canucks.
In early 2017, he shared his story on The Players’ Tribune, sparking conversations about mental health.
This year, Hirsch joined ICBA as its Wellness Ambassador. Along with the 2022 multi-city speaking tour, Hirsch is also providing content for ICBA’s Workplace Wellness program.
