Bridgerton‘s Ruby Barker explained that she is ‘taking a little break’ after being hospitalized during her ‘mental health struggle’ in a brave video on Thursday.

The actress, 25, who plays Marina Thompson on the show, added that she had been “struggling since Bridgerton” but now hopes to “get on with her life”.

Taking to Instagram, Ruby addressed her followers in the honest clip as she thanked her fans and family for their support, as well as Netflix for ‘saving her’.

She began: ‘I am better, I have been very ill for a long time. I want to be honest with everyone. I have been fighting

I am in the hospital right now and will be released soon and hopefully I can get on with my life.

“I’m going to take a little break and encourage others, if you’re struggling do yourself a favor and take a break, stop being so hard on yourself.”

Explaining her feelings, she continued, “I was full of rage, angry, all this intergenerational trauma stuffed inside of me.”

“I was carrying the weight of the world on my back and now I am at the point where I have a diagnosis, I am drawing a line in the sand.

‘I can’t go on like I was, I need to change, so that’s what I’m trying to do. I want to survive and I will survive, I will.’

Ruby concluded the video by thanking her friends and family, as well as the streaming service, Netflix, for giving her a chance and “saving” her.

It comes as Ruby saying it “means everything” to have been on the diverse show after thinking she wouldn’t be able to star in a “period drama because of her race.”

In an exclusive clip shared with MailOnline’s PrettyLittleThing: Behind Closed Doors podcast, Ruby also revealed that she didn’t watch the racy series with her family, cheekily declaring, “I don’t need to look at Rege’s butt with my dad!”

Ruby laughed off any suggestion that she watch the series, which contains several racy sex scenes, with her family.

When asked if she had seen him again, Ruby said: ‘NOO oh God no I don’t see him with my family. I don’t need to look at Rege’s butt with my dad!

“I’m perfectly fine watching it by myself, my sisters watched it, and my grandfather in the States watched it too.”

“I had seen Belle, the movie about Dido Elizabeth Belle, who was a mixed-race aristocrat in the Georgian period, and I saw that movie and I was like, ‘wow, that would be amazing to play, but it’s already been done, I'” I’m probably not going to be in a period drama just because of my race.”
