David Harbour actor Stranger Things on struggle with mental illness – The Statesman

Stranger Things actor David Harbor has described mental illness as “a natural condition of poverty” as he reflects on fame as the popular series returns to Netflix.

David Harbor has done a fantastic job on Stranger Things 4 and everyone appreciates it after the series launches this Friday. He admitted that he never thought Stranger Things would be successful, but it won several Emmy Awards and received four Golden Globe nominations.

Harbor, 47, rose to fame for his portrayal of Jim Hopper on the sci-fi drama series Stranger Things and also made headlines when he married British pop star Lily Allen.

However, he has reflected on how being successful later in life affected his mental health over the years due to “worries about not having enough money to live on”.

Speaking to Big Issue magazine about her experience living with bipolar disorder, she said: “My particular big problem is what society would call mental illness.

“I was diagnosed with bipolar at the age of 26 after an episode that landed me in an institution.

“I have definitely been in and out of the system. And there were times in my life where I very easily could have ended up on the streets, but luckily I had a family that was able to support me through those tough, difficult times.”
