UK’s Film and TV Charity asks entire industry to take mental health survey

Charity’s first Looking Glass report in 2019 revealed shocking statistics about the mental health of many who work in the industry.

Nine out of 10 respondents said they had experienced a mental health problem.

Another Looking Glass Survey conducted in 2021, commissioned to capture how film, television and film workers were responding to the challenges presented by the pandemic, reported that only 1 in 10 people agree that the industry is a safer place. mentally healthy to work.

However, there were also signs of a turnaround, with respondents acknowledging that conversations around mental health, culture and working conditions were beginning to take root.

The Charity is asking everyone working behind the scenes, from commissioners to camera operators, film directors and projectionists, and in every corner of the UK, to complete the survey and share it with their colleagues.

Alex Pumfrey, CEO of The Film and TV Charity, said: “This is the third time we’ve asked people to complete the Looking Glass Survey and we’re hopeful that people from all corners of the industry will do so to help us understand. how we can continue to support each of them, regardless of where they are in their career.

“We are asking all film, television and film actors to take up this challenge by sharing the survey with their colleagues; tell us how you feel and what you need. And while we fully understand that many are feeling the effects of the cost of living crisis right now, donations from those who can help can make a world of difference to so many working behind the scenes.”

In March, the charity unveiled its free mental health resource The complete image toolset. He has also previously released the Let’s restore the service and a Wellness center for freelancers.
