City’s Mental Health Professionals To Host Standup Comedy Show | Pune News – Times of India

Pune: Walking the fine line between pulling off comic punches and spreading mental health awareness, a group of professionals in the latter sphere will present a stand-up comedy show at a Kothrud cafe today, sharing some lighter moments at work .
The first free event of its kind titled ‘Psycomedy’ will be held at Cafehouse Reeka at 7pm Hosted by Ananda.ai, an online mental wellness platform, featuring acts by dream analysts and therapists. devika limayeclinical psychologist and mental health blogger Sejal Shinde, and clinical psychologist and Person Centered Therapy (PCT) therapist Varsha Vatak.
“People also have a lot of misconceptions about mental health professionals, which can be funny. For example, it’s not uncommon for patients to haggle over fees with us, which they don’t do with other doctors,” Vatak said.
Limaye shared, “I was watching this Madhuri Dixit song, ‘Dhak dhak karne laga,’ when I realized that the lyrics actually represent symptoms of clinical anxiety! Then I found many more such examples, which I will share to educate the audience about such disorders in an entertaining way. Maybe they identify with that, or at least are informed by the act,” she said.
“Nothing is written. We will talk about our own experiences, interacting with the audience and going with the flow,” said Shinde.
Amol Ghemud, founder of Ananda.ai, said: “Next year we will bring this event to more metropolitan cities where people are well versed in stand-up comedy, followed by tier 2 and tier 3 cities.”
