Eight from Agra’s Mental Health Institute test Covid positive; active cases at 39

With 20 new cases of Covid-19 testing positive in the last 48 hours, the number of active cases in Agra rose to 39 on Sunday, according to health officials.

Thirteen cases were reported on Saturday, including seven inmates at the Mental Health Institute. On Sunday, seven new cases were added that again had a positive one from the Institute of Mental Health.

Three foreign nationals have already tested positive in Agra this month. A couple from Australia, residing in a hotel in Agra, tested positive for Covid a week ago and were followed by another foreigner who tested positive last week.

Seven new positive cases were found among 2,866 samples tested on Sunday and the number of active cases increased to 39. The recovery rate which stood at 98.68% in Agra district on the first day of the month witnessed a drop to 98.62% on Sunday with the increase in active cases, officials said.

“It is time to be alert as the number is increasing. Those who tested positive are also from nearby districts. This month, three foreign nationals who arrived as tourists in the city of Taj tested positive for covid-19 and the hotels together with the local intelligence unit (LIU) were alarmed for properly reporting foreign arrivals,” stated Dr. Arun Kumar Srivastava, Medical Director of Agra as he discusses the situation.

“It is also a matter of concern that seven of the cases that tested positive on Saturday were from the Agra Mental Health Institute (formerly Agra Mental Hospital). These were patients visiting the Agra Institute of Mental Health OPD,” reported CMO Agra.

“As a precaution, we carried out more sampling there and one more sample from the Institute of Mental Health OPD tested positive on Sunday,” stated Agra CMO DR AK Srivastava.
