High blood pressure: The simple exercise shown to lower BP – don’t have to leave your seat

A new study published in the National Library of Medicine found that engaging in an exercise that replicates the handshake could help reduce blood pressure. Specifically, the researchers found that isometric grip home training was the most effective. Grips normally work by exercising the muscles of the wrist, palm, and fingers. Isometric training is designed to exercise these muscles without lengthening or shortening the muscle.

The scientists behind the research found blood pressure readings dropped after 20 weeks of exercise.

During their research, participants performed 10 gripping exercises training three times a week for eight weeks.

At the time of writing, the researchers said, “The results of this study indicate that isometric grip exercises improve resting systolic blood pressure.”

In addition, the results also showed that one of the main arteries in the body became more flexible as a result of the exercise.
