Michael Mosley: ‘Reduce your hunger’ by eating protein every morning

Controlling food cravings is a big part of the weight loss problems many people experience as they end up snacking. But Dr Michael Mosley has shared a key tip for staying full for longer without the need to go on a strict diet.

He suggested that people increase their protein intake earlier in the day, as it appears to help keep you full longer, aiding weight loss and reducing cravings.

Dr Mosley said: “Protein can help keep you full and studies show it reduces the hunger hormone.

“It also increases the level of a hormone known as a peptide that makes you feel full.”

By including higher levels of protein in their diets, people will see an increase in their metabolism and reduce their appetite.

“Eating protein for the first meal of the day helps you feel full longer because after a protein meal, levels of a chemical called tyrosine increase within the brain,” Dr. Mosley continued.

“By increasing its own supply of dopamine as the next meal approaches, the brain experiences a much weaker dopamine hit from high-calorie foods.”

High-carbohydrate breakfasts should be avoided, as the insulin spikes they cause can increase food cravings later in the day.
