Wilson N. Jones reopens psych ward

SHERMAN, Texas (KXII) – Wilson N. Jones Regional Medical Center on Thursday acknowledged the reopening of its behavioral health unit.

“Reopening the unit again and providing this service will be of great benefit to the community,” said the unit’s director of nursing, Rochello Govindasamy. “Mental health is often an unmet need and we are very excited to provide this care and maintain good mental wellness.”

The facility closed in 2020 when the coronavirus hit. However, the recent return of the installation shows significant improvements.

After more than 100 years of activity, Wilson N. Jones claimed to always be looking for ways to improve. Enhancements include new technology, new upgrades, and a new unit to serve even more medical needs.

Wilson N Jones Executive Director Julie Stumberg pointed out the key factors that helped the center thrive.

“The first job is to have quality,” Stumberg said. “We have the quality and the people, and the rest will come. That is why we are growing and prospering.”

The 12-bed unit includes private rooms with a personalized program that accommodates different diagnoses and teachers trained to meet mental health needs.

The complex unit took about seven months to plan down to the finest detail, including non-ligated elements to ensure patients are in a safe environment.

“We had to wait for the untethered stuff for the doors, the hinges, the right beds,” Stumberg said. “You have to have special things in the windows. You have to have special glass. Everything has to be special. Everything is safety, so we want to provide the best.”

Diabetes patients should stay away from these fruits, otherwise there may be problem

According to Wilson N. Jones, they plan to open the unit slowly, but expect occupancy to fill quickly. Furthermore, they expressed that they have even bigger plans for the future.

“The first thing is to reopen the unit, and then the second step is to expand again and do another service line for the longevity of Wilson N. Jones,” Stumberg stated.

No matter how much the center changes, your goal will always be the same.

“Mental health affects quality of life, so our goal at the behavioral health unit is to provide care through hope, healing and wellness,” Govindasamy said.
