Male Menopause: Signs, Symptoms And Treatment That Men Should be AWARE of

Male menopause (andropause) occurs due to hormonal changes with age in men due to low levels of testosterone. In women, menopause completely ends ovulation in a relatively short period of time. In men, the decline in testosterone levels and production of the hormone occurs slowly and gradually. So, once a man turns 30 or older, there is a slow decline in testosterone of about 1% per year. This means that the testicles will not completely stop producing testosterone. Also, due to chronic diseases like aging, diabetes, HTN, certain changes in testicular function occur when a person reaches 45 to 50 years of age. Once a man turns over 70, he can experience a drop in testosterone levels of about 50%. Moreover, obesity, type 2 diabetes, hormonal disorders, liver or kidney disease, and infections can also lead to earlier-than-normal andropause.

reasons

Low testosterone production, age and overproduction of a hormone called SHBG (sex hormone binding globulin) can trigger andropause.

symptoms

High percentage of body fat, erectile dysfunction, decreased libido (low sex drive), lack of sleep, thinning of the skin, dry skin, depression, low energy, hot flashes, loss of muscle mass, inability to concentrate, and excessive sweating or hyperhidrosis. Some men may also suffer from serious complications such as osteoporosis and cardiovascular problems.

diagnosis

It is diagnosed by a physical examination and symptoms with the help of a urologist or male fertility specialist (andrologist). It is advisable not to delay further treatment after diagnosis.

treatment

Skin patches are helpful. People who wear testosterone patches will be able to receive the hormone through the skin. Testosterone gel can be applied directly to the skin, ie on the hands, and hands should be washed after each use to prevent transfer to other people. Capsules can be taken twice daily after meals but men suffering from other serious health conditions like heart disease should avoid using these capsules. Furthermore, lifestyle changes such as exercise, good nutrition and stress reduction can also help manage andropause symptoms. Medication or testosterone replacement therapy may also be recommended for some men. You just need to follow the guidelines given by the doctor. Do not self-medicate as it can be dangerous.
