A mentally ill young man from Bihar, who was rescued last August, has been rehabilitated and reunited with his family, thanks to the efforts of collector V. Vishnu.
When some people noticed a young man who passed out on the roadside in Tirunelveli town during the lockdown, they reported it to Mr. Vishnu, who alerted the authorities at the Emergency Care and Rescue Center (ECRC). Taken to the ECRC in Kandigaiperi, the mentally ill young man received counseling and rehabilitation measures that gradually improved his physical and mental health.
One day, when he performed ‘namaz’ and started crying for his parents, the counselors tried to get more information from him, but to no avail. Although the video of the young man was shared on social networks, no clues about his family were received.
In subsequent counseling sessions, the young man told counselors that he was from Darbhanga in Bihar. Mr. Vishnu immediately contacted the Darbhanga District Collector and shared the photos and videos of the youths. After an intense search, the Darbhanga police located the young man’s father, Noor Mohammed, and identified the young man as Mohamed Riyaz.
“We confirmed that Riyaz is Mr. Mohammed’s son through a video call and requested Darbhanga Collector to make arrangements for Mr. Mohamed’s trip to Tirunelveli. It was an emotional reunion when the father met his son after several months on Wednesday,” said Mr. Vishnu, who handed over the boy to his father in the presence of ECRC Saravanan and Usha officials.
Mr. Vishnu appealed to Darbhanga Collector to help the youngsters to start a business enterprise.
