Denison ISD to provide free mental health film series

DENISON, Texas (KXII) – The pandemic has put many students behind a computer screen more than ever and with that comes a rise in cyberbullying.

Denison Schools Behavior Specialist Jackie Melancon says cyberbullying is estimated to have increased by 70 percent nationwide.

According to Melancon, North Texas has the highest suicide rates in the entire state among people ages 11 to 18.

Now the district is teaming up with a local independent filmmaker to screen a series of three movies about bullying and how costly it can be.

“Families wrote and said this conversation opened up a conversation with my son and we didn’t know they were experiencing these things,” Melancon said. “That still gives me goosebumps while I’m here.”

The films will be screened online and at home and are open to Denison ISD families. All families have to do is register on the Denison Independent School District site.
