AA regular runner for many years and a veteran of three marathons (two in London and one in New York), I get goosebumps when I see the almost 50,000 runners lining up to start the London Marathon. It is, for most people, the hardest physical feat they will ever experience. No one can really prepare you for how you’ll feel around mile 21 of a 26.2-mile race; At this point, you’re firmly inside what endurance athletes call “the cave of pain.” There are things you can do to help.
