The eight-time consecutive holder of the Mr. Olympia title once shared his feelings with the press. His statements helped shed some light on the dangers of bodybuilding. In an interview with Generation Iron in May 2022, Ronnie told readers how he’s been associated with the sport. Last year, George Peterson and Shawn Rhoden passed away.

Ronnie Coleman is not ready to die for the sport
Even in the contemporary era, Ronnie Coleman is a very active voice in the field. Coleman had also suffered from health complications, losing most of his mobility after serious spinal surgery, and is currently recovering. The former bodybuilder had stated, “When you start dying, this sport is not worth dying for.”
The bodybuilder has personal experience with the risks associated with diuretics, which peaked in 2001. He was the first athlete to win both the Arnold Classic and the Olympia in the same year. Despite his achievements, he almost didn’t win the Olympia. Coleman remembers that day when he woke up feeling dehydrated and wanted to rush to the hospital.
“I woke up the morning of the Olympia and I felt horrible”, the said, while remembering the day he almost didn’t participate in Mr.Olympia.

Shawn Rhoden passed away in November after what was reportedly a heart attack, while George Peterson passed away at the age of 37 in October from heart problems said to have been caused by steroids. After the recent death of Cedric Mcmillan of a heart attack at the age of 44, weightlifters have been paying special attention to his health.

The incident also changed the way Coleman views the sport. He had become aware of the fact that nothing is more important than his own health. But despite his multiple injuries, Ronnie remains one of the best in his sport and continually updates his fans on his life through Instagram.
