Roorkee: A team of researchers at IIT-Roorkee has developed ease of use A breath-based cancer detector (BLO). Used for early detection of cancer, it will work on the principles of Colorimetry.
According to the researchers, this device will be able to detect the presence of breast, lung and oral cancer.
The researchers – Indranil Lahiri, Parth Roy and Debrupa Lahiri – are faculty members. Roy is a professor in the Department of Bioscience and Bioengineering while Indranil and Debrupa are Associate Professors in the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering. Also, IIT-Roorkee signed this technology transfer Tata Steel.
This BLO detector Screening of people who are susceptible to three types of cancer will be important. Initial clinical testing of this device was done at Cancer Research Institute, Dehradun with sensitivity and specificity of 96.1% and 94.6% respectively.
Professor Indranil Lahiri said, “This is a quick, easy, pocket-friendly breast-lung-oral cancer screening device and one only needs to blow into the device. After the test, one can match the color of the substrate. Color code Given and understand the possibilities of breast, lung and oral cancer.”
