Tyson Fury to release debut solo single to raise money for men’s mental health charity

Tyson Fury has announced that he will release his first single to raise money for a men’s mental health charity.

The two-time world heavyweight champion must officially share a cover of neil diamondThe classic single from ‘Sweet Caroline’, with 100 per cent of proceeds going to Talk Club, a charity that provides talk groups, sports groups and other therapies for men.

Fury’s cover will arrive on November 11 ahead of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, which begins on November 20.

“Sweet Caroline is a record that I have always loved and am excited to record and release,” said Fury. “And thanks to the folks at Warner Music, they gave me the opportunity to do it, and what better time to release it than around the World Cup.”

He added: “If it helps England on the way to the World Cup, well, that’s an added bonus.”

The 34-year-old boxer has been outspoken about his mental health struggles in the past and hopes partnering with Talk Club will encourage more men to seek advice and support.

“Boxing has been a great platform for me to spread the word about mental health and I’ve done the best I can,” he said. “I have spoken a lot about my fight for mental health, especially since my return.

“My ups and downs, ups and downs have been published widely, so I did my best to keep talking about it as much as I could and keep trying to break the stigma.”

Talk Club co-founders Ben Akers and Gavin Thorpe said: “Suicide is the leading cause of death for men under 50 in the UK. Tyson Fury is a champion, in and out of the ring for many of those men.

“The men see themselves in Tyson, so when he speaks, or sings, they listen.”

Although the cover marks Fury’s solo debut, it won’t be the first time Fury has recorded a song having previously worked with Don McLean in a new version of ‘American Pie’, as well as robby williams in ‘Bad Sharon’.

News of Fury’s latest musical venture comes as he prepares for his trilogy fight with Derek Chisora ​​at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on December 3.
