Chandigarh: A big help for stroke Patients, Chandigarh is likely to become the first city in the country to have a system where tertiary hospitals are linked with district and sub-district hospitals with communication applications.Strokenet Chandigarh‘, no doctors PGI Claimed.
Mobile based application will manage Stroke treatment Hospitals which do not have neurologist or CT scan facilities. This is expected to reduce treatment time and save patients a golden hour/window period of 4.5 hours.
PGI, which already has a hub and spoke model with district hospital GMSH-16, is working to rope in civil hospitals into the model. Code Stroke, which is integrated with the app, is an automated calling system that provides the time of stroke onset in patients arriving at the hospital. It will alert the spoke’s stroke team and the hub team who will be ready to receive patients.
“We are working on having a dedicated mobile-based application that will be used for communication between healthcare workers for any such cases in hospitals,” said Dheeraj Khurana, Professor, Department of Neurology at PGI.
The app has a dedicated code stroke that will be activated and alerted to teams in hospitals where stroke cases occur,” said Dheeraj Khurana, professor, department of neurology at PGI.
Three years ago, the institute started a hub and spoke model with GMSH-16 to help hundreds of patients. PGI is the hub which will be connected to civil hospitals at Sector 22, 45 and Manimajra besides GMSH-16 through the application. “There are many stroke cases that come to civil hospitals and only GMSH-16 has CT scan which is required for stroke treatment. Once such a patient arrives, code strokes will be activated at the spoke hospitals. While those to be sent to PGI will be based on the algorithms prepared in the application,” said Prof Dheeraj.
