Ultra trail runner explains how to progress with squats

Many people, who are starting their fitness journey, find it difficult to do so. squats or bending at the hips and holding the movement. Since it is an effective exercise for the lower body, it forms an important part of any body weight training and therefore cannot be omitted.

What are squats?

The compound movement of a squat involves lowering the hips from a standing position and then rising back up.

So what can you do if you find it difficult to squat correctly?

The trick is to gradually progress your squats by making modifications, said ultra trail runner Purva Narang.

β€œIf you’re not quite ready to leave it like it’s hot yet, start with these modifications. Progress at your own pace as you work on them,” she said in a post on Instagram.

According to her, here are some modifications which can be easily tested.

*Sit down and stand up with the support of a chair.
*Sit-stand-touch on the edge of a chair
* Chair back squats holding the back of the chair

Explaining that squats are one of his favorite exercisesNarang said, β€œIt’s a full lower body movement. It strengthens virtually every leg muscle and helps with core strength and stability.”
