Google to develop AI with med-tech company to improve breast cancer screening – ET HealthWorld


San Francisco: Google has announced its partnership with iCADA pioneer in medical technology and Cancer detection, developing AI to improve accuracy and expand availability of breast cancer screening. This will be Google’s first commercial agreement with its licensor Mammography AI research models will be integrated into real-world clinical practice.

“iCAD will work to validate and incorporate our mammography AI technology with its products for use in clinical practice with the goal of improving breast cancer detection and short-term personal cancer risk assessment for the more than two million people diagnosed with breast cancer globally each year,” Google said in a blogpost.

With new technology, better screening will improve health outcomes and reduce disparities for people around the world.

“By combining the strengths of our technology and teams, we strengthen our fight against breast cancer and positively impact the lives of patients and their loved ones around the world,” said Stacey Stevens, President and CEO of iCAD.

iCAD’s breast imaging portfolio of tools and Google Health’s mammography AI technology will allow radiologists to focus on their patients, according to the blogpost.

In addition to licensing their AI technology, iCAD will use Google Cloudhas a secure, scalable infrastructure, allowing them to rapidly expand cloud-hosted solutions into new territories.

By doing so, iCAD can expand access AI-based tools In underserved areas where infrastructure limitations may limit their ability to provide breast cancer screening, the blog post states.
