Olivia Colman delivers mental health message to children during virtual assembly

livia colman has told schoolchildren that it is “essential that we take care of our own mental well-being” as part of a series of taped virtual assemblies for Children’s Mental Health Week.

The Oscar-winning actress, 48, has teamed up with Bafta and the charity place2be for events on wellness and emotional growth, which will be streamed online on Monday.

He was joined by famous faces, including presenters. Emma Willis Y lindsey russell Ice Dancing Judge Oti Mabusé and the actors Kit Young and Kia Pegg, in their participation in the series.

The assemblies focused on the theme of Growing Together through activities that students can try in class or at home, in an attempt to raise awareness of the stigma around mental health.

Colman said: “The last few years have been challenging for all of us, so it is vital that we look after our own mental well-being, but also find ways to support each other.

“We are always growing, we may not realize it. The most difficult growth to recognize is the emotional one.

“For Children’s Mental Health Week 2022, we encourage everyone to explore how they have grown together and to celebrate how even in difficult times, with the right support, we can all continue to grow and thrive.”

As part of the sessions, the professional dancer Mabuse participated in activities with the students.

She said: “When I struggle with day-to-day things or feel a bit overwhelmed, I know that I can always talk to my mother. Sharing is important.

“I think that sharing emotions, sharing how we feel, whether it’s good, bad, sad, happy or excited, is important, we need to register.”

The famous faces were joined by students from partner schools Place2Be Seascape Primary in County Durham, Rosslyn Park Primary in Nottingham, Carrick Academy in South Ayrshire and Folkestone Academy in Kent.
