Acid reflux: The esophageal sphincter relaxes when foods that normally cause heartburn are consumed, slowing digestion and allowing food to stay in the stomach longer. Although occasional cases of acid reflux (heartburn) are common, some people experience burning sensations, bloating, and belching almost constantly. Acid reflux can be triggered by foods high in fat, salt, or spices, such as fried and fast foods, cheese, and fatty meats. Nutritionist Lovneet Batra says: “Despite trying to cut out the right foods, you may still experience heartburn. While antacids and other over-the-counter products can control stomach acid, dietary adjustments will help control symptoms and alleviate acid reflux.”

- Rice: Bland starches like rice and pasta are good choices when it comes to foods that don’t damage your stomach lining. Rice is easy to digest and does not trigger uncomfortable symptoms.
Some researchers also say that it could help alleviate symptoms such as heartburn due to the presence of prebiotic fiber. - Banana: As an excellent source of potassium, this fruit helps keep acid production in balance. And not only are bananas alkaline, but they’re also high in pectin, a soluble fiber that helps food move through the digestive tract.
- Cucumber: Cucumbers are an alkaline food and therefore neutralize acid in the body by increasing the pH value. Furthermore, cucumber is also one of the lowest calorie foods due to its high water content (around 95%).
- Sabja Seeds: Sabja seeds work as a natural coolant for the body and can help relieve acidity and heartburn. When immersed in water, their mucilage content increases and can help neutralize excess stomach acids.
