Tura, Oct 28: Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha Agatha K Sangma distributed nutritious food to tuberculosis patients during the National Tuberculosis Elimination Program for Nutrition Support at District Tuberculosis Hospital, KA Road, West Garo Hills Tura. The program was organized by the District Office of Tuberculosis, Tura District of West Garo Hills.
Speaking during the short function, Agatha K Sangma, Lok Sabha MP, expressed her appreciation to the medical officers and staff for their dedicated service to the elimination of tuberculosis in the district in connection with the Government of India initiative to eliminate tuberculosis by 2025. He said that in order to eliminate the disease, the support and cooperation of both doctors and patients is necessary, adding that patients should take medicine regularly and complete the course and also eat nutritious food, and urged patients to cooperate and help accelerate the country’s progress towards eliminating TB in the district.
He also expressed his appreciation for the testimony of TB Warrior and advised others to resist and testify to the success of the elimination program.
Meanwhile, the District Tuberculosis Officer, Dr. EA Sangma, presented the progress report of the Elimination of Tuberculosis in the district as per the directive of the Government of India and reported that the district has achieved 93 percent of the goal and that the success rate is 83 percent adding one of the Districts with the Best Performance in the State. He also mentioned that they visit patients’ homes, organize community awareness programs in villages, including awareness programs in schools and universities, etc. He further mentioned the meeting that anyone who has symptoms such as cough of any duration, fever, night sweats, loss of appetite can come in for a sputum test or can take anyone who has these symptoms to the TB hospital and if the disease is diagnosed, the person will receive an incentive.
Furthermore, as part of Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, he reported that under the recently launched Union Government Nikshay Mitra Scheme, which aims to eradicate tuberculosis in the country by providing free diet or nutrition to such patients. So some donors viz MP Agatha K Sangma, Babelapara MDC and Chairman, GDADC, High Power Committee Rakesh A Sangma, Subir Marak of Garobhada, Manager, State Bank of India, Ampati Branch, Jasmine BA Sangma , Mehtab Chandi A Sangma, Habibuz Zaman, MDC, Akki A Sangma, Marbilline R Sangma, Akhtar Ali, Hope –Ladies Engineer Group, Tura have generously donated for 212 tuberculosis patients in the West Garo Hills district.
Miss Biginchi Momin, TB Champion also gave her testimony during the show who had gone through such a difficult stage in her life but defended herself with her patience and determination and is now continuing her studies after two years of treatment.
