AIIMS and IIIT-Delhi sign MoU to advance digital health technologies – ET HealthWorld


New Delhi: All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology Delhi (IIIT-Delhi) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to work on various aspects of digital health areas together. Under the MoU, both institutions will work together in areas such as artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML) and computational genomics for the advancement of clinical medicine, public health and biomedical research.

The collaboration aims to improve patient care, outcomes and healthcare delivery through the development of innovative technologies. The two institutions will also engage in joint research and training, the exchange of faculty and students, and the organization of workshops and seminars to promote collaboration in the field of digital health.

Welcoming this joint initiative and finding it extremely promising in furthering translational research, Professor Srinivas, Director of AIIMS, said: “This was a platform to bring together faculty with diverse domains from two top-tier institutions and facilitate them to converge to achieve targets that can have a direct impact on patient healthcare and research in multiple areas.This would be an exciting opportunity for AI-based algorithms and digital solutions, for which AIIMS can provide the big data and IIIT can work on algorithms. This effort will also ignite the young minds at both institutes and inspire them to find innovative solutions for day-to-day healthcare.”

According to the statement issued by the IIIT-Delhi, solving the major health challenges facing India, such as access to healthcare in remote and underserved areas, by creating technological innovations in m-Health, artificial intelligence, interoperability, cybersecurity and related areas. will be the focus of this joint collaboration.

Noting that this MoU will enable joint digital health-related research, development of technology solutions for secure digital health applications, and joint application for external research funding, among other joint research and development activities, Professor Ranjan Bose, Director of IIIT-Delhi, said: “There are several points of common interest, including AI and ML for healthcare, therapeutic design using computational techniques, m-Health, digital solutions for sustainable development goals, patient data security, cybersecurity, computational genomics and a framework of universal health coverage.There is also the identification and support of internal financing for co-financed projects and the development of joint courses within the framework of this MoU.We hope to take advantage of each other’s strengths to create a bigger impact in the healthcare space.

The MoU also outlines the commitment of both institutions to work together on computational genomics research, which will be used to advance understanding of the genomic basis of human disease and inform the development of personalized treatments. The collaboration will also focus on developing a universal health coverage framework under Ayushman Bharat’s Digital Mission, which will help ensure that all citizens have access to quality and affordable health care services, the statement further said.
