AIIMS Bhubaneswar signs MoU with IIT Bhubaneswar on Artificial Intelligence, focus on integrating medical science with technology – ET HealthWorld


Bhubaneswar: All India Institute of Medical science (AIIMS) Bhubaneswar and the Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote academic and research collaboration in various areas of healthcare and technology using concepts of Artificial intelligenceofficials reported Wednesday.

“To integrate Medical science with Technology to provide a better and more equipped health service, in a unique effort of its kind two first level institutes of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education AIIMS Bhubaneswar and IIT Bhubaneswar have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote academic and research collaboration in various areas of healthcare and technology,” the press release reads.

“Both institutes agreed to expand collaboration to advance research for public health applications, such as early diagnosis of diseases and outbreaks, Artificial intelligence and data analysis, biomedical engineering and technology, Disease prediction modelingDigital health, development of tools, equipment and strategies for diagnostic and therapeutic use”, he added.

AIIMS Bhubaneswar Executive Director Dr. Ashutosh Biswas and IIT Bhubaneswar Director Shreepad Karmalkar signed the MoU at the AIIMS Bhubaneswar premises.

“Dr. Ashuotsh Biswas mentioned that this effort will help find solutions to current challenges in public health and patient treatment in the region. The application of state-of-the-art technology in health care will have immense translational value in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases,” he said.

“The collaboration will focus on the application of artificial intelligence in relation to various health disorders, material development, application development, wearable sensor development, image-based diagnosis, AI, intelligent system of data science-enabled health tracking and early warning systems, among others,” he further said.

Dr. Biswas also mentioned that the Union Health Minister Dr Mansukh Mandviya has always fostered these types of ties to excel in providing health care to the people.

“On the occasion, Biswas also thanked Union Health Minister and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan for their support to make this MoU successful,” he said.

On the occasion, IIT Bhubaneswar Director Shreepad Karmalkar said that the social effect of these two institutions in Odisha and across the country will increase as a result of this MoU.

“The director of IIT Bhubaneswar mentioned that various colleges of IIT Bhubaneswar and AIIMS have been looking for potential mutual partnerships for some time. The social effect of these two institutions in Odisha and across the country will increase as a result of this MoU, which will combine all of these efforts and give them a powerful boost,” the official statement said.

“IIT Director Bhubaneswar thanked Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan ji for encouraging the creation of this MoU and further said that the effort is to ensure that this MoU produces concrete results,” he said.

“The Institutes will also focus on laboratory development. An Advanced Research Center called “Biomedical Engineering and Technology Center” which includes biomedical signal processing, advanced characterization, imaging detector manufacturing, additive manufacturing for engineered materials, development of biotrackers and biosensors for mental health care, as well is planned under this collaboration, press release mentioned.

In addition, both Institutes have agreed to facilitate faculty and student exchange programs and reorientation/training courses that will bring academic excellence in their respective fields.

The Institutes also agreed to develop and offer joint academic programs involving technology and healthcare, as well as an academic credit sharing mechanism.

“Both institutes will focus on developing dedicated facilities and explore the use of advanced medical equipment for AI-enabled patient care services. This will provide joint academic programs including short summer courses for MBBS and BTech students. In addition, research dissertations and thesis papers for PhD Students (PHD/MTech).Patents, product development, technology transfer and industry collaboration are other aspects that this collaboration will address,” the official statement said.
