App to help find blood donors in Kolkata – ET HealthWorld

Kolkata: The families of many patients are often forced to search for blood on their own, as blood bank attached to the hospital, where his relatives are admitted, does not have the corresponding group. To solve this problem and others like it, an application, called bloodline morewill help find a volunteer donor available within 20 km of the hospital in question.

An initiative of the Kolkata Mahanagar Rotary Club, the app was launched on Thursday.

A user will need to download the app from google play storeregistration and blood request. “We have more than 20,000 blood donors in Kolkata in our database. Previously, we organized offline volunteer blood donors. This app should make things easier for those who need blood in emergency situations. We also ask donors to sign up here so we can expand our database,” said Rotary International 2021-22 President Shekhar Mehta, the brains behind the initiative.

For example, a patient admitted to a city hospital needs three units of O+ blood and the internal blood bank cannot provide any or one unit. A Bloodline Plus app user can log in and submit their requirement. The app will send an alert to nearby O+ blood donors who can submit their response.

“Many patients come to the city from other districts and don’t know anyone here who can help with a voluntary blood donor. This application will be of great help to you. Those who work in blood banks should also be aware of this app so that they can recommend it to patient families when the need arises,” said Subhrojyoti Bhowmick, clinical director of academic, quality and research at Peerless Hospital.
