According to the mental health charity Mind, dissociation (also written as “dissociation”) can be described as a feeling of disconnection; “If you dissociate, you may feel disconnected from yourself and the world around you. For example, you may feel detached from your body or feel like the world around you is unreal.” Dissociation is one of the ways the brain responds to trauma and stress, with periods of dissociation lasting anywhere from a few hours to days or even weeks and months.
