The next Mr. Olympia event might not be until the end of the year, but the Canadian bodybuilder chris bumstead you’re already preparing, and that means increasing your food intake. He currently weighs 255lbs, his goal is to gain another 10lbs and he will officially be the biggest he has ever been.
Having already shared the diet you use to lose weight before a competitionnot to mention the epic trick day menu delivered after winning his third straight Mr. Olympia Classic Physique title, Bumstead just shared a new video that breaks down how he’s eating to bulk up again during his off-season.
For breakfast, she eats a bagel with ghee butter (most days would be pancakes) and makes a smoothie with protein, oatmeal, and almond butter, which she uses to wash down her vitamins and supplements. This comes to 1,344 calories.
The second meal of the day, at 980 calories, is steak and rice, quickly followed by meal number three, chicken and rice (760 calories). “I like to eat chicken and rice before the gym because it’s the most basic and easiest food to digest,” she explains.
The post-workout meal is ground turkey with sweet potatoes and banana, at 780 calories. Bumstead adds that he bakes or air-fries his sweet potatoes rather than boiling them, as they cook and become smaller and easier to eat, helping him hit his calorie goal for the day over a large amount.
Meal number five consists of more sweet potatoes, avocado and ground beef (682 calories). Then the last meal of the day is a 600-calorie protein shake with oatmeal and almond butter. “If I have a smoothie morning and night, and get all the food I need, then I’m good to go,” she says. “I haven’t been the biggest eater lately, so this helps me get stuff.”
Bumstead’s biggest tip for bulking up? Make sure you drink enough water, which will help your body digest all the food you eat.
