The plan now, according to Grimes and coach milos sarcevis that Grimes takes the year off and gain about 15 pounds of mass before returning in 2023.

“I really want to be in the top five, and I don’t think, right now, I’m not there yet,” says Grimes. “So this year, we’ve decided to take it off and continue this rhythm of putting on the headscarf and next year we’re going to a show and we’re going to Olympia.”

While he’s the biggest he’s ever been at 295 pounds, Grimes and Sarcev evaluated his progress about 16 weeks after the show. Looking at their size and where they wanted to be, Grimes notes that there wasn’t enough time to “make a substantial amount of improvement” to the Olympia.

A matter of mass

Grimes notes that he has been competing consistently for the past few years without a significant break. With this decision, he will be able to dedicate more time to his growth and training.

Sarcev also points out that size is, appropriately, the most important factor if you want to make noise at Olympia. Although he believes that Grimes has better symmetry than most of your competition, the likes of Mamdouh “Great Ramy” Elssbiay, brandon curry, Hadi ChoopanY nick walker just have too a lot of dough to deal with.

“It’s still a muscular competition, no matter what we say,” says Sarcev. “When you’re next to Big Ramy, you have to have size. And if he doesn’t have it, he would be outmatched.”

To that end, Cutler agrees. “A month ago, I said that it’s okay, people can challenge [Big Ramy]. But now […] I can’t see him losing the way he is.”

Grimes finished in 15th place in the Olympia 2021 and earned his 2022 rating after win the KO Bodybuilding Pro in Cairo, Egypt, at the end of 2021. Most recently, he placed seventh in both 2022 Arnold classic Y the Boston Pro 2022.

For now, Grimes didn’t say what her next contest would be as she watches the 2023 Olympia.
