Team Koda CrossFit United will be disqualified from the 2022 CrossFit Games after a team member failed their drug test on both A and B samples. Koda finished 4ththe at the MACC and, although it is not yet official, the AB CrossFit team should fill the position.
CrossFit recently announced that toby johnsonone of the members of the Koda CrossFit United team, provided a sample containing a GW1516 metabolite at the Mid-Atlantic CrossFit Challenge on May 29the. The substance is known to help with stamina, often referred to as Endurobol.
Although CrossFit HQ says the process is on appeal, an internal email from Johnson himself claims the team has been disqualified after their B sample confirmed traces of an illegal substance.
“I recently learned that the B sample test confirmed the results of the first sample,” he wrote. “Therefore, Koda United is disqualified from the 2022 CrossFit Games, all because of me.”
“After sustaining a knee injury last year, I knowingly took PEDs to speed up my recovery time and get back to racing as quickly as possible. I’m sorry I was dishonest about this – I was afraid of letting so many people down so I made up an excuse and didn’t notice my actions,” he continued.
Please see the email he wrote to members of Koda CrossFit United below. The team finished 24the at last year’s Games.
Koda CrossFit United disqualified; AB CrossFit must fill out
With Koda CrossFit United disqualified, the following team should get an invite to take the spot. And that team is AB CrossFit who finished 6the in the MACC with only 10 points from CrossFit Kilo II (the team placed 5the).
4 athletes failed their drug test during the 2022 semi-finals
Toby Johnson is the 4the athlete about whom CrossFit HQ has made a statement about a failed drug test.
BOXROX explained above the situation of jaylon franklinof CrossFit Shoofly Storm Squadron, and hunter williams, from CrossFit CLT. They both tested positive for the same Toby Johnson substance – GW1516.
the fourth athlete who also failed his drug test and is in the middle of an appeal process is Stephen Wallace. His team, Blues City Gold, finished 7the in the Syndicate Crown.
Why does this matter? Because CrossFit CLT also competed in the Syndicate Crown and is about to be disqualified. If that happens, Blues City Gold would be next on the waiting list to fill out a potential invite to the 2022 CrossFit Games.
CrossFit Shoofly Storm Squadron finished second in the MACC and if the team’s invitation to the Games is revoked, the seventh-place team should take the spot: CrossFit Westchase Red.
