In a 5+ minute video posted via Instagram on May 26 (Thursday), the 25-year-old actress revealed she was recently hospitalized for an undiagnosed mental health condition after realizing she had been “very ill for a long time.” She captioned the video: “Mental health week is every week for me. Out of my chest. I feel like I haven’t been completely honest, so this is for my followers. It’s time to be transparent. I have been fighting since Bridgerton, this is the truth. Thank you all for supporting me, your love sustains me”

In the shared video, Barker shared that she was about to be released from a mental health facility and planned to take some time off. “I just want to be honest with everyone, I’ve been struggling,” she said at the beginning of the clip. “So I’m in the hospital right now and I’m going to be released soon and hopefully I can get on with my life.”

“I’m going to take a little break and I want to encourage others if they are struggling, please do yourself a favor. Take a break. Stop being so hard on yourself.” Barker noted that while he previously had to leave a West End production of Running with Lions after contracting Covid-19 in addition to dealing with mental illness, he also assured fans that he was “in new heights” since receiving support. She recalled being “full of rage, frustrated, angry” and “carrying the weight of the world on my back” before receiving a diagnosis. “All this intergenerational trauma piled up inside of me and I carried the weight of a world on my back,” he explained.

“I’m at a point now where I have a diagnosis and I’ll talk to you about that another time,” he added. “But I have a diagnosis and I am letting go. I’m forgiving myself and drawing a line in the sand. I can’t go on the way I’ve been doing it. I need to change. So that’s what I’m trying to do. I was trying to hold my mental health together like this, just adding so much pressure. Like my brain was going to explode, and that’s basically what happened. Sometimes you just have to take a break. You have to say, ‘I can’t do this right now. I need support.'”
