Britney Spears shares emotional post on mental health and complaining: ‘I try to stay grateful’

Britney Spears took to Instagram to share a long and emotional post about mental health wellness on Saturday.

The 40-year-old singer-songwriter first shared a caption penned by Seattle-based artist Makenzy Smith.

Spears said she had no personal connection with Smith and simply liked her caption.

The short paragraph read, ‘on cloud nine whenever my camera is in my hand [stars emoji]but I am learning now more than ever that my work is not my purpose. it’s a big part of my life and I LOVE it, but I’m not learning the social norm that I’m worth something based on my productivity.

‘you are worth much more than you can make in a day. you deserve rest and love, you don’t need to earn your place in this world. once you lean into this truth, the work becomes easier, it becomes a labor of love, not a burden of the soul. so if no one told you today, you are worthy, you are loved, you deserve to be here, you will do great things in time [leaf emoji].’

Spears followed up with several pages of her own thoughts beginning with: ‘Have you ever wondered why readers love to read? [inquisitive face emoji]??? I don’t know… maybe because we chose to read [book emoji] instead of expressing. It is our safety and our worst enemy! You say to yourself “did I just read that wrong?” and then, with a coin toss in literally 2 seconds, your entire universe could change because your mother’s voice sneaks into your brain with doubt and does the one thing you never wanted when you were younger…literally drown you in confusion. [eyeroll emoji] !!!!

‘Ask yourself over and over…I mean some people prefer others that way…why??? It shows that they are weak, so in return it gives power to the other person, but let’s be honest… when I was drowning, no one gave me a hand… they let me drown in that place and I believe it with all my heart. .. so NO, I don’t want to be the obscure reader who questions himself too much [shrug emoji] !!!

I need to swim up for air…find land…and scream until the end of time!!! But then it’s that damn voice of doubt…the fall comes slowly something you’ve honestly been in denial for a long time or wait…was that a denial at all? [hand on chin emoji] Or was your true innocence hanging from the upper world of magic? [magic wand emoji] ???’

After a short diversion to talk about magic and her two children, whom she called ‘damn brilliant’, she opened up about a recent conversation about complaints she had with a friend.

‘I told my friend last week ‘I feel bad for complaining’ and do you know what she said? Something I never thought I’d hear her say… she said “to be totally honest with you, you hardly ever complain”! She said “What if negative is the new positive and positive is the new negative?” She also said, “Maybe being negative is being cool.” [shrug emoji] !!!! Okay… so I thought about it and said “hmmmmm [hand on chin emoji] is that it teaches me to lie [flustered emoji]????” I’m the worst liar in the world [laughing/crying emoji] I’m like “Let’s hang out all week please[anxious emoji]”

‘Sounds horrible but I wear my heart on my sleeve. Maybe being completely honest can hurt you. It’s a vulnerable thing to do… mind [brain emoji] it’s so sensitive. Be careful who you allow to get close or how you talk to yourself! It’s called living in the brain and, my God, I have great hearing and it’s not always a breeze up there. [monkey covering its eyes emoji] !!!

“I wake up every day and try to be grateful. The mind is so powerful… with the flick of a switch, one thought can change everything. That’s pretty powerful when you think about it…with the two words “I DO” my husband wears a ring now that he works out and realizes that a VERY OVERDUE marriage can still lead to what’s called a story of fairies. [queen emoji][king emoji] !!!

‘How incredibly blessed I am…excited…elated…and genuinely excited to be able to share about MENTAL HEALTH. This well-written caption touched my heart. [rose emoji] !!! I have no idea who he is, but it’s well written. My intuition spoke so softly and that whispery voice came in… it felt so, so, so good.

He finished off his comments, after thanking Smith, by asking his millions of followers a series of questions.

She then told fans what she was reading, Danielle Steel’s Invisible and Scott Cunningham’s Magical House.

Spears’ rambling Instagram posts have become more frequent since the end of her multi-year conservatorship last fall. She has written on a number of topics in the past and is quite focused on mental health on social media.

She recently married her longtime boyfriend, Sam Asghari, in a ceremony in Los Angeles last month. Asghari is her third husband.
