Brittney Griner is receiving physical and mental health care in Texas after returning to US soil last week, a White House spokesman said Sunday.
After nine months in Russian custody, griner landed in San Antonio, Texas, early Friday morning. The WNBA star was airlifted to the US Army’s Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston, where she was taken to Brooke Army Medical Center for treatment, according to The New York Times.

Griner is “receiving appropriate mental and physical medical care just to make sure she is ready for reintegration into American society,” White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said on “This Week.” ABC News.
“They will find out from the doctors and family how much longer he will need to be there, but our initial reports indicate that he is in very good spirits and in good health,” Kirby said.
Griner was detained in Moscow in February after authorities said she had cannabis oil in her luggage. In August, she was found guilty of drug smuggling and received a 9-year sentence in a penal colony, until the United States agreed to a prisoner exchange last week.
