Shimla, November 26

Chief Secretary RD Dhiman said that mental health and well-being were the main concerns of modern society and that Covid had underscored the need to build a credible mental health system.

Chairing a meeting on the 2017 Mental Health Care Act, Dhiman said that good health and well-being are among the 17 sustainable development goals by 2030 of United Nations member states.

“The sustainable development goals not only focus on physical health, but also on mental health. The goal is to reduce premature mortality from noncommunicable diseases by one third through prevention and treatment and promote mental health and well-being by 2030,” he said.

Detailing the current mental health scenario in the state, Chief Health Secretary Subhasish Panda said that people with mental health problems should never be ignored. “Mental health care must be strengthened to make it accessible and affordable for all,” he said.
