After China, cases of human metapneumovirus (HMPV) are increasing rapidly in India. Since Monday, seven cases of this virus have been reported in the country. In this case, two cases were found in Bangalore, Nagpur, Tamil Nadu and one case in Ahmedabad. The increase in HMPV cases also worries the Ministry of Health.
Although it is denied that a Corona-like situation is being created due to this virus, the cases reported in the last two days have definitely increased the tension of the population. In such a situation, the question is: what is the treatment for this virus spread from China? Is there a vaccine available? Will antibiotics have any effect on this virus? If not, why? Let us know…
Identified in 2001
The Ministry of Health said that there is no need to panic too much about this virus because this virus is not new. The ministry said the virus was first identified in 2001 and has been spreading around the world for years. Health experts also say that the HMPV virus does not cause increasing mortality like that of Corona and that a person infected with this virus rarely needs to be hospitalized.
What is the treatment for HMPV?
The symptoms of the HMPV virus that appeared in China are almost similar to those of Covid-19. However, this virus is very different from Covid. Health experts say Covid was a new virus and therefore humans lacked the immunity to fight it. Since HMPV is not a new virus, it may only be dangerous to children under 5 years old or those with weak immunity. Experts say that a child over 5 years old can develop immunity to fight this virus. As for the treatment of this virus, no vaccine has yet been developed.
Can HMPV be treated with antibiotics?
The question now is whether antibiotics are effective against this virus and whether it can be treated with these drugs. The answer is no. Antibiotic drugs show their effect on any bacterial infection, since HMPV is a virus and cannot be treated with antibiotics. However, antibiotics can prevent other bacterial infections in the body if immunity is low. You can take liquid diet, medicine for pain, cough and other infections as advised by the doctor.
